Tỉnh này đặt mục tiêu có 51 khu công nghiệp vào năm 2030.
Theo UBND tỉnh Long An, từ nay đến năm 2030. Long An sẽ có 17 khu công nghiệp thành lập mới với diện tích tăng thêm gần 3.200ha. Theo đó, toàn tỉnh sẽ có 51 khu công nghiệp với diện tích gần 12.500ha.
Với số lượng trên, Long An sẽ là địa phương đứng thứ 2 (sau Bình Dương) cả nước về diện tích các khu công nghiệp, tạo điều kiện và cơ hội lớn để thu hút đầu tư.
Bình Dương hiện đang là tỉnh có diện tích khu công nghiệp lớn nhất cả nước với tổng diện tích 12.721 ha từ 31 khu công nghiệp. Chiếm 1/4 diện tích khu công nghiệp toàn miền Nam, 13% diện tích khu công nghiệp của Việt Nam.
Long An cũng quy hoạch mới 28 cụm công nghiệp với tổng diện tích hơn 1.800ha. Nâng tổng số các cụm công nghiệp trên địa bàn tỉnh lên 72 cụm với tổng diện tích gần 4.000ha.
Long An sẽ tập trung phát triển ngành công nghiệp theo hướng đổi mới công nghệ. Nâng cao năng suất, năng lực cạnh tranh, sử dụng hiệu quả và tiết kiệm tài nguyên. Phấn đấu chỉ số sản xuất công nghiệp tăng bình quân khoảng 13%/năm trong giai đoạn 2021-2030.
Tỉnh ưu tiên phát triển công nghiệp chế biến, chế tạo và năng lượng tái tạo. Tập trung phát triển một số ngành công nghiệp chủ yếu như sản xuất kim loại và sản phẩm từ kim loại đúc sẵn, cơ khí chế tạo, chế biến thực phẩm, sản phẩm điện tử, hóa chất và sản phẩm hóa chất, năng lượng…
Hiện nay, toàn tỉnh Long An có 24 khu công nghiệp đủ điều kiện tiếp nhận đầu tư với diện tích đất công nghiệp gần 4.300ha, tỷ lệ lấp đầy đạt 65,2%. Toàn tỉnh cũng có 23 cụm công nghiệp đang hoạt động, thu hút 688 dự án với tổng diện tích đất đã cho thuê hơn 800ha. Tỷ lệ lấp đầy của các cụm công nghiệp hoạt động đạt 87,5%.
